Battambang is Cambodia’s second largest city, located about 350km northwest of the capital Phnom Penh. Bordering Thailand, many Battambang residents have close connections – either personal or business-related – with their Thai neighbors.
Many parts of the province were under the rule of the Khmer Rouge during 1975-79, and some parts are still heavily mined.
The province is very proud of the quality and quantity of the rice it produces which can serve the whole population of Cambodia. Oranges, specific to this region, are also well known by the Cambodian people.
VisionFund Cambodia has operated in Battambang province since 2000 and is now serving 9,447 clients with loans to the value of US$2,031,159.
